Hwan (환 桓) means “the resplendence of heaven.” and guk (국 國) means “nation” or “united states.”
The Hwanguk (환국 桓國) “Radiant State” founded by Hwan Clan was the most ancient of all states. The Hwanguk (B.C.E 7197 ~ B.C.E 3897) were the originators of the early high civilization of Eurasian Continent from shortly before 7000 B.C.E. It was the very beginning of the Ancient Korean’s Three Sacred dynasty.
The state founded by Hwan Clan was the most ancient of all states. This ruler of Hwanguk was known as Heavenly Sovereign Hwanin and was also called Anpagyeon.
At this time, Hwanin became the head of all people, took residence in the Heavenly Region, (the region east of Tienshan mountain) and taught people how to cook food with fire for the first time by striking flints together. The state was named Hwanguk (Radiant State). Hwanguk spanned seven reigns existing for 3301 years.
– from The Samseonggi I –
Hwan (환 桓) “the radiance of Heaven” was a name given first by the people who have called themselves “the people of Hwan.” People of Hwan (환 桓) had followed the heavenly commandment(天命) from Sangjenim on Heavenly palace.
The ruler of Hwanguk was known as Heavenly Sovereign Hwanin (환인 桓仁) and was also called Anpagyeon. The Hwanguk was a crossroads and a melting pot for 5 different
colored races with 9 different groups of people over tree thousands years.
By worshiping one God Sangjenim (상제 上帝), 9 noble house with 12 states with 5 different colored races (green, red, yellow, white and black) became one united as “United States of radiance of Heaven (환국 桓國)” living in harmony. Hwanguk spanned seven reigns existing for 3301 years.
Most historians refer to the Neolithic period as an uncivilized era before history began. However, a civilized group already existed in Northeast Asia around 9,200 years ago, not
long after the beginning of the Neolithic age.
The Samseonggi I declared that the founding of the Hwan Clan’s state circa 7200 BCE was the oldest event in humanity’s history of state foundation. The first ruler of Hwanguk was Heavenly Sovereign Hwanin Anpagyeon.
According to the history book of Hwandangoggi (환단고기 桓 檀古記), at the time of Hwan (환 桓) about 9200 years ago, people had worshiped Sangjenim (상제 上帝), the Supreme spiritual being who governs the universe. Sangjenim (상제 上帝). Sang (상 上) means “supreme” and Jeh (제 帝) means “ruling God.” (Korean adds the honorific nim) People of Hwan (환 桓) meaning “people who had experienced the brightness of heaven” had followed the heavenly commandment(天命) from Sangjenim on Heavenly palace. Teachings from Sangjenim were called Singyo (신교 神敎).
At that time, by worshiping one God Sangjenim, 12 states with 5 different colored races became one united as “United States of brightness of Heaven (환국 桓國)” living in harmony. Below Panaeryusan Mountain sits the ‘Realm of the Hwanin.’ The land east of Cheonhae (Heaven Sea) is also called Panaeryuguk (the Panaeryu State) and it stretches 50,000 ri from north to south and 20,000 ri from east to west. The totality of these lands is called Hwanguk (the Realm of the Hwan).
The realm is divided into 12 sub-states that are known as Biriguk, Yangunguk, Gumakhanguk, Gudacheonguk, Ilgunguk, Uruguk (also called Binaguk), Gaekhyeonhanguk, Gumo-aekguk, Maeguyeoguk (also called Jikgudaguk), Sanapaguk, Seonbi-iguk (also called Siwiguk or Tongosaguk) and Sumiliguk. Hwanguk spanned the rule of seven Hwanin sovereigns, existing for 3301 years.
