The spirits perform this bow before Sangjenim to express their utmost deference. This bow, which symbolizes the uniting of the virtues of heaven, earth, and human beings, has been performed in Korea since ancient times during ritual offerings to heaven led by the monarch. Sangjenim instructed His disciples to perform this bow at chiseongs (spiritual ceremonies).
Today, Jeung San Do practitioners perform this bow four times at chiseongs and before meditation to unite themselves with heaven and earth and to express their complete devotion to Sangjenim and Taemonim. See also “chiseong.”
