A central tenet of Jeung San Do. Bitterness and grief represents torment internalized by all sentient beings under the Early Heaven’s order of sanggeuk.
This tenet places particular significance on humanity’s individual and collective suffering, which humans bear with them into the spirit afterlife.
Sangjenim incarnated into this world to resolve all such bitterness and grief internalized by humans and spirits. He revealed that the vast accumulation of bitterness and grief spawned during the Early Heaven could destroy all existence: “If all the bitterness and grief born of sanggeuk were allowed to explode, the universe would collapse into ruin” (2:13:8).
