Baedal (배달 倍達) is the state name. Bae (배 培) is Balgeun (밝은) in Korean meaning
“brightness” and dal (달 達) means “land.” The original meaning of Baedal is “a bright land of the East” or “the eastern land of radiance.”
Baedal succeeded the state of Hwanguk. (7197 ~ 3897B.C.E.) The ruler of Baedal is called the Hwanung. Its capital was founded at Sinsi (Divine City) and it had a lineage of 18 Hwanungs, lasting 1,565 years (3897 ~ 2333 B.C.E.)
The fact that Koreans call themselves “the people of Baedal” derived from Baedal, the first country in the history of the Korean people.
Baedal (배달 倍達) is the state named by Hwanung who brought peace to the world. Hwanung (환웅 桓雄) succeeded the throne of Hwanguk (환국 桓國). Accepting the mandate of Heavenly God Sangjenim in heaven, Hwanung descended to the region between Baeksan and Heuksu.
Possessing the Heavenly Emblems and Seals and presiding over the Five Affairs, Hwanung ruled according to the ways of Singyo, Singyo (신교 神敎),thus enlightening the people and promoting far-reaching benefits for humanity. He established a Divine City, Sinsi (신시 神市), as the capital, and named the state Baedal (배달 倍達). In the final period of Hwanguk, Hwanung of Seoja left for the East and established a new civilization.
Geobalhwan, the first Hwanung, received the symbol of national lineage — the Heavenly Emblem and Seals — from Hwanin, the ruler of Hwanguk and took three thousand people with him to Baekdusan Mountain to pioneer a new civilization.
As Hwanung succeeded the throne of Hwanguk, he accepted the mandate of Sangjenim in heaven, Hwanung descended to the region between Baeksan and Heuksu. He thence dug two kinds of wells (Wells of the Son and Wells of the Daughter) in Cheonpyong (Heavenly Plain), and divided the land in Cheonggu (Blue Hills) into farming plots.
Possessing the Heavenly Emblems and Seals and presiding over the Five Affairs, Hwanung ruled according to the ways of Singyo, thus enlightening the people and promoting far reaching benefits for humanity. In Baekdusan Mountain, Hwanung established the capital in Sinsi (Divine City) and named his state Baedal.
